Porsche India launches Cayman S at Rs 92.28 lakh [In Pictures]

New Delhi, June 20: Volkswagen Group owned German sports car maker Porsche has launched a completely revamped Cayman S with a price tag of Rs 93.99 lakh ex-showroom (New Delhi.)The new two-seater Cayman has been completely revamped; it is lower and longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than ever. The Cayman S is a very sporty car with impeccable reflexes and superb balance, a car that offers great driving experience. After the 911 Carrera and Boxster, the Cayman S is the third sports car model from Porsche to feature innovative lightweight body design with mixed aluminum-steel construction. The company claims that the new model, which is up to 30 kg lighter, depending on the specific model and equipment, consumes up to 15 per cent less fuel per 100 km than the predecessor despite higher engine.The Cayman S is rear-wheel drive and is available with a 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine delivering 325 HP. It comes with seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission as an option. When equipped with PDK, the car zooms from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and attains a top speed of 281 km/h. The new Cayman has a 2.4-inch longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, larger wheels, a larger greenhouse, and a higher equipment level, and yet it 30 kg lighter than the car it replaces, thanks to aluminum-intensive structures and assembly shared with the 911 Carrera.All these tweaks first displayed on the coupe's drop-top cousin, the Boxster, makes it one of the best driving cars on the market.The hides-and-alloy cockpit environment—including Porsche's sleek central bank of switchgear—is same as the 911. The Cayman S can be equipped with optional torque vectoring, a brake-based system built to augment the mechanically locking rear differential and help put power to the ground.The new Cayman S also comes with a Sport button as standard that lets the driver select between sport-oriented tuning and comfortable tuning that is optimised for fuel efficiency.Up front, one of significant change is the larger front air inlets framed by black plastic strakes instead of the standard body color treatment. On the back, the two can be separated via the exhaust outlet, where the Cayman uses one tip and S gets the double barrel treatment. Meanwhile, the cabin has remained largely untouched for 2014. Drivers will welcome the addition of new sport seats. The Cayman cabin also features redesigned air vents, and the option sheet now comes packed with a 12-speaker Burmester sound system. For 2014, the model boasts a total of 15 cubic feet of cargo area, up a little over half a cube overall. In addition, the longer wheelbase delivers a bit more leg room as well. Overall, Porsche has built one hell of a machine in the Cayman S. There is very little to complain about. The car probably comes with the best steering in the business, mid-engine balance and confidence-inspiring poise, and a very light curb weight.
