New Delhi: Chinese handset maker OnePlus has launched its much-awaited '2014 flagship killer', the OnePlus One, in India, with a killer pricing of just Rs 21,999, for the 64GB Sandstone Black version. OnePlus One will be exclusively available for purchase on Amazon.in starting today.
To purchase the device users in India will receive India-specific invites through OnePlus and Amazon.in. A 10-day return policy by Amazon has also been announced. Users can log onto oneplus.net/in to register their interest for a OnePlus One invite.
Earlier, OnePlus suffered a setback when Cyanogen announced the end of its official partnership with the company in favour of Indian manufacturer Micromax. This means that even though OnePlus has launched the device with the CyanogenMod 11S ROM, the device won't be supported by CyanogenMod. Thus you won't get automatic OTA updates on the device. To solve this issue, OnePlus has said it is working on its own operating system, based on Lollipop (the latest version of Android), the beta version for which will be available in December, followed by a stable release in February 2015.
The company also says that it has no plans of departing from Google's Material Design and will not add unnecessary customizations. The OS was originally being developed for OnePlus' future products.
The company has tied-up with HCL Care to offer after-sales service in 20 cities across India.
"Our company focuses first on our users and our product. We want to provide the best possible experience for our Indian users who have been so supportive of our vision. To do that, we are investing heavily in our Indian operations and partnering with the fastest growing and most admirable e-commerce company in the market, Amazon.in," said Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus.
OnePlus One comes with top-of-the-line hardware specifications, featuring a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) full HD JDI screen with LTPS technology and is powered by a 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor. The display boasts Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The device comes with 3GB of RAM and will be available in two variants: 32GB and 64GB.
OnePlus One has a 13-megapixel rear camera with IMX214 sensor and f/2.0 aperture, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It also includes a 5MP front camera, ideal for selfie lovers and those who use their devices for video conferencing purposes.
Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC functionality. It features a 3100mAh non-removable battery meaning it will last an entire day or even more.
OnePlus will also be selling its accessories on Amazon. These will include the Silver Bullet Earphones, Bamboo StyleSwap Cover and Flip Cover. In addition, a Clear Case, Protective Case, Screen Protector and JBL E1+ Earphones will also be available soon.
