New Delhi, May 5: The Nokia Lumia 520 – the most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone yet debuted in India in March. Strong pre-orders for the device appeared to be quite strong with the device quickly becoming the second best selling smartphone on Flipkart.
Now, AdDuplex has released some ad data from its network which shows that the Nokia Lumia 520 is already the top Windows Phone in India, surpassing the capable Lumia 620 in less than a month.
The data says that the Nokia Lumia 520, released only a month ago, has already taken 16.9 per cent of the market, taking first place ahead of the Nokia Lumia 620, at 15.4 per cent.
It also said that Nokia had more than 90 per cent of those handsets which run Windows 8. It also suggests Nokia sold more handsets in the first few months of 2013 than they did in the whole of 2012 there.
So what worked in Nokia Lumia 520's favour?
The 520 continues Nokia's bright, bold approach to phones, and that's a good thing. The first obvious answer is its affordability – a full Windows 8 phone with all the Nokia applications for just Rs 9999. The handset comes with a 4-inch IPS touchscreen display capable of delivering a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution, as well as with a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor packed inside.
At the same time, Nokia has put a lot of efforts into its camera software. These include Cinemagraph (check out the video review for an example), Panorama and a Best Shot mode.
In terms of computing performance, the Lumia 520 behaves identically to the 620 and 720 in every single respect. The 520's battery also has a higher capacity than the 620's (1,430 vs. 1,350mAh), the 520 is left worse off.
Overall, the Lumia 520 offers a full-fledged, fluid and friendly smartphone experience, but it sits in the shadow of the 620.
