New Delhi, Sep 10: Mother Dairy, a major distributor of milk in Delhi and its adjoining areas, has increased milk prices by up to Rs 2 a litre, with effect from tomorrow.
Mother Dairy's full cream milk (poly pack) will now cost Rs 37 a litre against Rs 35 a litre.
One litre of toned (poly pack) would cost Rs 29 against Rs 27 a litre, a Mother Dairy release said.
Prices of Toned Bulk milk vended (token milk), double toned (poly pack) and skimmed variety have been hiked by Re 1 a litre.
Mother Dairy, which sells 30 lakh litres of milk per day in Delhi, attributed the hike in milk prices to rise in procurement cost.
“There is a need to increase the consumer price to compensate for the increased procurement prices. Mother Dairy has tried to delay this price increase to the extent possible,” the company, set up by the National Dairy Development Board, said.
The hike in prices by Mother Dairy follows a similar raise by rival Amul brand, which had increased prices by up to Rs 2 a litre in the first week of August.
The price hike will have a definite impact on food inflation which stood at 9.55 per cent on annual basis for the week ended August 27.
Milk inflation stood at 9.12 per cent as per the latest data. The weight of Milk in wholesale price inflation basket is 3.24 per cent. PTI
