New Delhi: Microsoft at Mobile World Congress 2015 announced two new mid-range smartphones, the Lumia 640 and 640 XL. They aren't quite the flagship devices, but they both stick to Microsoft's policy of offering respectable hardware on a budget.
Both phones come with a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM a piece, 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, as well a year of Office 365, and 1TB of free OneDrive storage.
The Lumia 640 offers a 5-inch display, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 2,500 mAh battery. The 640 XL is slightly bigger, clocking in at 5.7-inches, and includes a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,00 mAh battery.
Both devices will be upgradeable to Windows 10 when it launches later this year, and you will be able to install the Windows 10 preview when both phones are released later this month.
As mentioned before, both phones are firmly in the budget handset range. The 640 will cost around $140 for the 3G model and $160 if you want 4G. The 640 XL is slightly more expensive, costing around $190 for the standard 3G model and $220 for the 4G model.
The handsets will come with a free one-year personal subscription for Office 365 for Lumia which can also be used on one personal computer and one tablet device - either Windows, iPad or Android. Included in the subscription will be one terabyte of Microsoft OneDrive storage and 60 Skype world minutes.
