Lenovo launches Yoga Tablet; aims for higher market share

New Delhi: Heating up the Android tablet space in India, Lenovo has launched its two new Android tablets, the Yoga Tablet 8 (8-inch) and Yoga Tablet 10 (10-inch), priced at Rs. 22,999 and Rs. 28,999 respectively. For starters, the tablets are sleek and comfortable to hold in the hand. It has a similar design to Sony's Tablet S which has a folded newspaper style wedge shape.The tablets come with Lenovo's multimode design, offering three modes to work - hold, tilt and stand. To make the tablets stand out in the crowd in terms of design, the devices feature cylindrical handles at one end for gripping. The cylinder also has an integrated stand that folds out to support the tablet in two modes, a low profile typing mode and an upgright position for watching video. The stand can support the tablet in various viewing angles to fit the situation.Besides display, there is no significant difference between the two variants, as both offer a display resolution of 1280×800 pixels and are powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT8389 processor for the 3G version.You can pre-book both Yoga Tablet 8 and Tablet 10 through the company's official site. The company is mentioning November 25 as the shipping date. In order to attract more buyers, Lenovo is offering bundled free accessories with Lenovo Yoga tablets, 8-inch and 10-inch models worth Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. The free accessories are a sleeve cover, protective film and earphone.The tablets run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. While both the tablets come with micro-SIM support, only the Yoga Tablet 8 supports voice-calling. The tablets are powered by quad-core 1.2GHz MediaTek MT8389 (Cortex-A7) processor, coupled with 1GB of LP DDR2 RAM. The 16GB built-in eMMC storage can be supplemented via microSD card, up to 64GB.The only port on the Yogas is a microUSB port that is used for charging the tablets. It can also be used to charge other devices while the tablet is being used.The cylindrical design has also gives the Yoga tablets an impressive battery life. Lenovo claims that web surfing can be done for 11.2/13 hours on the Yoga Tablet 10 and 8, respectively.
