Ranchi: Prices of petrol and diesel will increase in Jharkhand from midnight after the state government decided to raise VAT and impose one rupee cess per litre on the fuel to mop up additional revenue.
As per the Cabinet decision of Sunday, VAT on petrol has increased from 20 per cent to 22 per cent and on diesel from 18 per cent to 22 per cent, besides the cess, and would be effective from midnight tonight, an official release said here.
“We are waiting for the price list to know the exact increase on petrol and diesel after the hike in VAT,” a petrol pump dealer said.
Presently, the price of petrol per litre is Rs 56.69 and of diesel is Rs 48.63 per litre, he added.
