New Delhi: For BlackBerry users, ditching a QWERTY keyboard for a touchscreen cellular phone can be complicated. To address this issue, a US firm has attempted to bridge the gap by creating a physical keyboard that slides onto touchscreen phones. The phone is meant for those who want to use their iPhone without ditching the comfort of Blackberry keyboard.

The new keyboard, called Typo Keyboard, costs $99 and is set to launch at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January for Apple iphone five and Iphone 5S handsets. Other smartphones and pill versions will then adhere to later following 12 months.

The new keyboard can easily slide into the bottom of the mobile phone and connect to the software through Bluetooth.

Users who wish to send a message or email, can type on the physical keyboard and the key strokes will be sent wirelessly to the phone in real-time.

The company is backed by company backed by US TV presenter Ryan Seacrest who is supposed to have invested $1 million in the phone keyboard.

“When we set out to design the Typo Keyboard, our goal was simple: create a keyboard and case that would add the absolute minimum additional length and thickness to the iPhone, while still providing protection to the phone and a butter-smooth, tactile typing experience,” said the Typo Products site.

The company said this will cut the need of people to carry two phones: one for typing and correspondence and an iPhone for virtually everything else.

Also, it is not the first time that a company has come out with this idea as BoxWave produces cases that have keyboards that slide from the bottom of iPhones and other touchscreen devices.
