New Delhi: A lot of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners have taken to Apple's online support community to express their dissatisfaction with the durability of the displays used on both the smartphones.
After the whole #bendgate issue, many iPhone 6 & 6 Plus owners say their smartphones' screens can be scratched easily.
They say despite taking great care of their new phones, one can easily see scratches, particularly around the corners. Forum members claim the newer models are much more vulnerable to scratches than Apple's previous iterations.
The issue comes to the fore despite the fact that this time around Apple has advertised that it has increased the durability of its displays, using what it says is “ion strengthened” glass on the new models.
“After 2 years of heavy use and no screen cover, my iPhone 5 never had a scratch,” one user complained. “Less than a week into owning an iPhone 6, I have a good sized scratch on my screen. So disappointed. I only ever had a bumper on my old phone and would totally throw it in my purse with my other stuff with no issues. Now I guess I'll have to get a cover for the screen. Definitely seemed easier to scratch.”
Some users believe the problem lies with the device's design. The latest iPhones feature a slightly curved glass panel near the bezels, with no protective “lip” to prevent the glass from making direct contact with flat surfaces when placed face-down. Others believe that the culprit is the material used for manufacturing the panel itself, which Apple claims to be a “strengthened Ion-X” glass.
