New Delhi: Apple Inc. on Monday announced that their new smartphones, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, will be available in Indian markets on October 16.
The new batch of smartphones were available to US customers from September 25, two weeks after they were unveiled in a highly publicised event.
The opening weekend sales for the brand-new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have exceeded thirteen million units, breaking the previous record of ten million units sold by the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year.
"Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple's history," said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a press release.
"Customers' feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can't wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9" he added as he announced that the device will be available in over 40 additional countries from October 9.
However, October 16 has been set for the launch of new iPhones in India, Malaysia and Turkey. The price for Indian market is not available as of now.
The price for iPhone 6S is $649 for 16GB, $749 for 64GB, and $849 for 128GB variant off-contract.
That's close to Rs.44,000 for the base model and it goes all the way up to almost Rs.57,000 for the 128GB model.
By the end of the year, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in over 130 countries worldwide.
The new iPhones are equipped with Apple's new 3D Touch display technology and are powered by its new A9 chip.
