Noida: Three officials of the Income Tax department today paid a visit to the Noida officie of the company that announced the launch of smartphone Freedom 251, pegged as the cheapest in the world, two days ago.
A team of three officials from the tax department paid a visit to the office of Ringing Bells and questioned officials of the company and went through several documents.
Meanwhile, the phone, which was launched two days ago, was to be made available for bookings Thursday morning onwards. However, the website of the company, where the pre-bookings were to be made, has largely remained dysfunctional. The company claimed that its servers crashed because of the immense interest shown in the product by consumers.
However, the technical difficulties being claimed by the company has not gone down well with enthusiastic consumers who mobbed the company's office demanding a phone. According to IANS, some consumers said thay were willing to shell out dounble the amount for the phone.
However, the phone has also been riddled in controversy on several counts. Besides the price, which is making it difficult for mobile and tech companies to fathom, there are also issues of copyright infringement. As per media reports, the phone's icons and its design bear an uncanny resemblance to Apple's iPhone range.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had yesterday raised doubts over the claims of the website saying that there was something fishy about it. The company, Ringing Bells, was registered only three months back and it had not been registered by any government agency, he said.
