New Delhi: Hyundai India has launched its much-awaited i20 Active crossover in India in the price range of Rs 6.38 lakh - Rs. 8.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
It is essentially a hatchback-turned soft-roader, and is available with petrol and diesel engine. i20 Active competes against the likes of Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura which are priced in range of Rs 6.23 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh, respectively.
Based on the new-gen i20, the crossover shares its features and engine line-up with the former.
The car measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,555 mm in height making it 10 mm longer, 26 mm wider and 50 mm taller than the Elite i20. The ground clearance has increased from 170 mm to 190 mm as well. The specifications of Hyundai i20 Active are enhanced because of new bumpers with skid guards, side body cladding and roof rails.
To give it a more sportier and rugged look, Hyundai is offering an impressive range of specs including projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, cornering lights, new 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and aluminium pedals.
Depending on the exterior color, the interior of the i20 Active comes either in an Aqua Blue shade or in an all-black interior with Tangerine Orange inserts.
The i20 Active handles uneven roads and potholes much better than the its hatchback sibling because of its slightly tweaked rear suspension, bigger alloy wheels and increased ground clearance.
The engine options of the new variant remains the same - 1.2-litre Kapp2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel - that power the i20 hatchback. While the 1.2-litre petrol engine is good for 82bhp and 114Nm, the diesel churns out 89bhp and 220Nm. They return 17.19 km/l (petrol) and 21.19 km/l (diesel).
Hyundai, which is eyeing a sales milestone of 5 lakh units in domestic market, is gearing up for a full play in the fast emerging sports utility vehicle segment to add volumes.
The company is set to introduce ix25 SUV in India around August-September this year, ahead of festive season.
This would then complete HMIL's range of SUVs in India. With i20 Active, the company plans to address lower-end customers, who are looking for a sporty and stylish vehicle.
The company already sells premium SUV Santa Fe, priced up to Rs 29.94 lakh.
