New Delhi, April 11: Japanese carmaker, Honda Motor has launched its much-awaited compact sedan Amaze at an aggressive price range of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The ‘Amaze' is Honda's first diesel car in the country. The company claims that is the most fuel-efficient car available in India which gives a mileage of 25.6 kilometres/ litre.
Honda has introduced an all-new 1.5-litre, ‘Earth Dreams' diesel engine in the Amaze, which is good for 98.6bhp. Along with this new engineered-for-India motor, the saloon is also available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. While the diesel option comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, the 1.2-litre 88bhp petrol variant gets options of both a five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic 'box.
Amaze is Honda's first diesel car developed for the Indian market. It is based on the Brio hatchback and gets styling tweaks in terms of a different grille, fog lamps and new alloy wheels.
Honda Cars India President & CEO H Kanayama said that Amaze is the most strategic models developed by the company for Indian and has the potential to become its largest selling model given the customers preference shifting towards diesel fuel.
"We are confident of its success. We have worked on aggressive localization overcoming many challenges in terms of timelines, technology and costs to bring Amaze at an attractive and affordable price. Amaze as been developed keeping in view the Indian customer need. It is Honda's answer to Indian customer's demand for diesel and should have a strong acceptance," he said.
Honda claims that the maintenance cost for the diesel model will be lowest in the segment. For the petrol model, the cost is on par with rivals.
