New Delhi: Google has begun rolling out a redesign of its homepage. The revamp includes a flattened, reshaped logo and replaces the previous menu bar with a smaller range of links on the page's right-hand side.

By doing so, Google has done away with the black bar that runs atop all of Google's properties. It has now been replaced with a new menu that sits next to the Share and account info. The launcher, which looks just like the app launcher on Chrome OS, brings up an App grid with your favorite Google services.

The move follows Yahoo revamping its logo and Microsoft updating its Bing search tool.

A blog post added that the firm intended to "streamline" users' experience of its services to prevent "distractions".

Experts say most companies want to give a refreshed look ahead of the Christmas shopping season.

Another analyst suggested that cutting down the number of links would encourage people to use Google's social network, Google Plus.
