Bengaluru: Search engine Google has picked India for its start-up mentorship programme ‘Launchpad'.

On Monday, the internet giant launched its start-up mentorship programme in Bengaluru which will include three-month mentoring for the 20 shortlisted start-ups.

A set of mentors from Google and other companies will coach selected start-ups looking to grow. Out of the 20 start-ups, 18 are from the Silicon Valley.

"This is one of our large scale new programme offering," Sunil Rao, who heads the start-up initiative for Google India, said.

Google has relocated all its developer relations team members in India to Bengaluru. While in most countries the developer team consists of two members, the Indian team is the biggest globally with four members.

In India, the company has planned to mentor close to 100 companies through Launchpad.

Launchpad was started two-and-a half years ago. This year, the company will have 60 such events worldwide. The Bengaluru edition is the company's first event in 2015.
