New Delhi: A secure-messaging company Silent Circle and Spanish startup Geeksphone have announced a new joint venture to put privacy and control directly in the hands of its users.
Under the partnership, the JV will launch its first surveillance-thwarting product, the Blackphone, a smartphone that's been designed to provide secure, encrypted communications, private browsing and secure file-sharing.
The Blackphone is powered by a security-oriented Android build named PrivatOS. The PrivatOS firmware includes encryption for voice calls, video chats, text messages, file transfers, and file storage. It encrypts exchanges to prevent spying and anonymize your activity through a VPN.
Since Blackphone will not be locked into one specific cell carrier or vendor, it means it will work with all GSM-based cellular service carriers, unlike smartphones that are locked into certain companies' networks.
