New Delhi, May 17: Ford India has confirmed that bookings for the much anticipated EcoSport SUV will begin in June.
"It's coming in June 2013! You've heard it right! The bookings for the much awaited Urban SUV Ford EcoSport will open in June 2013," Ford confirmed on the Facebook page. The company did not share the exact date when it will open the bookings.
The new Ford EcoSport packs a lot of aggression to take one the largest selling Renault Duster or Mahindra Quanto. Ford hopes that the gasoline-powered EcoBoost engine will coax Indians away from diesel cars.
The EcoSport is an honest attempt by the company in offering a relevant urban SUV for the competitive automotive markets like Brazil and India. The latest EcoSport is based on Ford's B-platform, on which the company's Fiesta is also built.
Design-wise, the EcoSport manages to be very aerodynamic. The oversized front grill and beefy front increases its ruggedness. The roof rails and ample ground clearance hint of a life on the open road.
The inner side reveals a premium quality and familiar feel, which looks like taken from the Ford Fiesta midsized sedan.
Ford plans to offer three engine options. In addition to the diesel engine, the SUV will be available with a 1.5 liter gasoline engine as well as the company's much touted EcoBoost.
The EcoBoost is smaller than most diesel engines on the market, and Indians prefer diesel engines for the cost savings. The company claims that the EcoBoost will deliver 18.9 kilometers a liter, or 44.5 miles per gallon.
Ford has also equipped the SUV with a life saving system where if it gets involved in a serious accident – the car will send a message to emergency responders providing its location through GPS.
