Five most expensive hotel suites in India

New Delhi: If you thought a castle holiday in Europe or a beach holiday in New Zealand is super-expensive then think again. Real luxury travelers know that their specialized tastes call for only the best.

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur

Tariff: Rs 10 lakh plus taxes for a night for the above package

Famous guests: Abhishek Bachchan, Dia Mirza

The Taj Lake Palace sits majestically on the calm surface of Lake Pichola. It was built in 1740 as a summer retreat, taking advantage of the cooling lake breezes. The Taj group took over in the Sixties, and the hotel has since become standard postcard (and Bond film) material.

The hotel's grand presidential Shambu Prakash suite - named after the 18th Maharana Shambhu Singh who ruled Mewar from 1861to 1874 - is one of the most expensive in the country.

By shelling Rs 10 lakh you will be picked up from the airport in a sleek Jaguar or a vintage car from the Maharaja's private fleet and greeted by a procession of traditional folk dancers and fire-eaters.

You also get a private butler, feast on a bespoke menu designed by personal chefs, and gulp down drinks on the hotel's 150-year old Gangaur boat, followed by a romantic shikara ride on the moonlit lake Pichola.

You also get Taj's signature Jiva Spa treatment - 'Mewar-E-Khas' - on the Palace's spa boat.
