New Delhi, Jul 23: This new entrant in the Sony Xperia Neo range of smartphones comes with PlayStation certification for superior gaming experience.
Global consumer electronics giant Sony last year announced the launch of its PlayStation certified devices with the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone. Till now there have been many additions to the PlayStation certified devices list with the inclusion of devices like Sony tablets and the Sony Xperia S. The latest addition to the PlayStation certified list is the Sony Xperia Neo L.
The Neo L is the latest entrant to the existing Sony Xperia Neo series of smartphone and comes with extended gaming capabilities now as well. In an exclusive media briefing by Sony, we got the chance to lay our hands on this latest device from Sony.
The Sony Xperia Neo L borrows its looks form its predecessor and is very similar to them as well. The rounded corners and the glossy colour finish all is exactly the same as the earlier Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Neo V. The only difference for the Neo L is the inclusion of a bigger 4.0 inch display which makes the device bigger and a bit bulkier as well.
But the designers have managed to keep the sleek look for the device exclusive to the neo series of android based smartphones.
In terms of look and feel, the device is bigger than existing Xperia Neo devices all thanks to its bigger 4 inch display. The device is available in a glossy white and black colour finish. The glossy body as usual is a fingerprint magnet and highlights scratches boldly.
The device we got was black in colour and the overall finish of the device looks great and the curved corners of the device makes it easy to handle as well.
The device features hardware keys in place of feather touch capacitive keys as seen on most devices these days, and to be honest it seems as if the device has some elements of the Xperia Play as well being a PlayStation certified device minus the gamepad.
It has a really big 4 inch display and its 480 x 854 pixel resolution at a 245 pixel per square inch pixel density makes it fun to see even the minutest of the details clean and clear. In terms of brightness and colour reproduction, the display is good and while playing games and movies the Bravia engine really makes a huge difference.
The PlayStation certification adds a host of new games available for the device but since the device features an older generation processor, similar to the one on the Xperia Neo V, there might not be many games available for the device in future.
Along with that the Sony Xperia Neo L smartphone will be able to access the Sony Playstation store and all the content that is available through it, making the Sony Xperia Neo L the Third smartphone officially certified PlayStation device after Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
peria Neo L is powered by a 1 GHz single core Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor featuring the Adreno 205 GPU and 512 MB of RAM for faster performance. The processor is same as the one featured on the Xperia Play, so expect similar gaming performance for the Xperia Neo L too.
The device features Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which will definitely be better for most applications in comparison to the older Android Gingerbread. The Timescape user interface is quite fast and never lacks anywhere from app execution to performance.
There is a 5 megapixel camera capable of recoding 720p HD videos but strangely misses out on the digital zoom functionality. There is a LED flash that helps in taking quality images in low light conditions as well. Along with that there is a VGA front camera for video calling support and works for video recording as well.
The Sony Xperia Neo L on the connectivity front features WiFi, and Bluetooth and HSPA+">HSPA capability which will come in real handy while accessing application that require faster data like YouTube.
The device will be made available for users in the weeks to come at a price tag of Rs 18,599. Although there's much more to talk about but we will have to wait some more time to lay our hands on the device for more detailed comments so stay tuned.
