First impression: Micromax Canvas Turbo A 250

New Delhi: With an eye to establish itself as a handset maker of global scale, Micromax has launched its new flagship device - Canvas Turbo - in India at Rs 19990. The phone comes with a promise of super-fast speed and seamless. It is the first smartphone by Micromax that comes with full-HD display. The Canvas Turbo comes with a 5 inch SHARP FHD CGS (Continuous Grain Silicon) power saving display that offers a dynamic contrast coupled with 360 degree wide angle viewing and colour clarity making visuals appear brighter and more vivid. With Canvas Turbo A 250 the company is hopeful this time as its earlier flagship didn't scored too well with Indian customers. And this time the company has roped in Hollywood star Hugh Jackman, who is the third-highest paid male actor in the world, as brand ambassador of the Canvas Turbo. With its slim frame and aluminum-plated body, Turbo A 250 has been designed to rival the iPhone 5 in terms of build quality and finish. The downside of this is users won't have the access to replace the battery of the device. It is a sleek handset, with a neatly controured body and pretty amazing finish. The Canvas Turbo measures in at 8.6mm in thickness which means it is not the slimmest smartphone out there. The current title for the slimmest smartphone under the 20k price range is the Xolo Q1000S.DisplayMicromax Canvas Turbo comes with a 5.0-inch full HD (1920x1080p) display with CGS (Continuous Grain Silicon) technology. Processor, RAM and StorageThe Canvas Turbo comes with a 1.5GHz MediaTek quad-core processor backed by 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory. The downside is that it doesn't come with microSD card slot, which means that it is losing a point against the rival. The Canvas Turbo too limits the built-in storage to 16GB.CameraOn the camera front, Micromax has done a good job by packing the Canvas Turbo with a 13 mega pixel auto-focus rear camera with flash that can also record full high definition videos (1080p) and a 5 MP front facing camera for video calling. The smart camera features pause and resume video playback (it tracks user's face direction, it stops video if the user turns away from the screen and automatically resumes video once he/she return their attention to the smartphone). The company has borrowed this feature from Canvas 4.It also comes with Camerazzi applications which enables user to take 360-degree Panorama shot, Cinemagraph and Object Eraser editing tools.Mobile Operating SystemThe smartphone runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Android "Jelly Bean" continues to mature with version 4.2.2, a smooth upgrade that cements the smartphone platform's top-tier status.ConnectivityIn terms of connectivity, the tablet has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G and it also comes with a microUSB port and a USB 2.0 port. It has full HD (1080p) video playback capabilities and GPS.Pre-loaded appsThe device comes with pre-loaded applications such as M! Live, M! Security, M! Unlock, Kingsoft, Spuul, Hike, Game Hub, Opera Mini, Look Away, FOTA, BBM, and iFloat, as well as a number of games like Fruit Devil, Dark Man, Jelly jumper.It has Freewheel feature which gives access to various apps and features with one click (SMS, Call, Pop-up video player and Pop-up Browser).Micromax is also offering a feature called ifloat. Be it over the hood or under the hood, Micromax has tried to give its best to make the device true to its theme: the phone that CAN juggle! With an idea to promote it as a device that can be very good at multitasking, Micromax has ensured that you don't have to wait for things to happen. By roping in Hugh Jackman, the company hopes to turn the things around in terms of branding. What is apparent from aluminium body and high-end specs that Micromax clearly wants to get out of the ‘budget' tab as it hopes to venture out in overseas markets.
