New Delhi, Oct 11: After unveiling a new logo last month, ecommerce giant Ebay showed off a brand new website design and introduced a new app that will let users order and receive items on the same day. The use of photos on the redesigned eBay seems to mimic the fast-growing social network, Pinterest.

The company says the redesign gives Ebay's website a more contemporary look and is designed to give users a better search experience and item pages.

“We're delivering a cleaner, contemporary look and feel; a more intuitive, convenient way to browse, decide, and buy,” said eBay president Devin Wenig in a statement.

The site is also offering a "newsfeed" and a "personalized homepage" with recommendations based on a user's shopping history or personal interests. The eBay newsfeed appears to have taken inspiration by Facebook with users getting a Twitter-like option to "follow" products or brands.

The company says with the redesign the users can complete a transaction in as little as two clicks.

In addition, sellers on eBay can link their Facebook fan or profile page, and even embed YouTube videos.

At the same time, eBay also launched its new ‘eBay Now' same-day shipping service, which is currently available in San Francisco and will allow shoppers to gain same-day shipping on goods sold by local retailers.

EBay's search has seen a major change, with the addition of an autocomplete feature that's similar to Google's. Users can personalize their search results for particular items.

Industry watchers termed the changes as necessary and said these new initiatives will help the company to compete in a broader range of categories including Amazon and Google, as well as Facebook.
