Mumbai, Aug 2: Despite monsoon which is usually a lean season for cement sector, leading manufacturers have managed to clock better sales growth in range of 7.4 to 28 percent in July.
While the market leader by capacity, Aditya Birla Group-controlled Ultratech Cement, said its July sales rose to 3.13 million tonne, a growth of 7.4 percent, the number two ACC had the best numbers with 28.21 percent spike in sales during July to 2 million tonne (mt) against 1.56 mt y-o-y. Ultratech's production also increased to 3.10 mt, or 7.3 percent, the company said, while its cumulative sales during the April-July period stood at 12.79 mt compared to 12.80 mt y-o-y, and production grew to 12.80 mt over 12.86 mt during the same period.
ACC's production also jumped to 2.03 mt in the month from 1.55 mt, the company said in a statement here. Its cumulative sales during the January-July period stood at 14.18 mt compared to 12.43 mt y-o-y, while production grew to 14.21 mt over 12.49 mt during the same period. The number three player by volume, Ambuja Cements, too registered double-digit sales growth, a 14.09 percent increase at 1.7 mt over 1.49 mt in the corresponding period last year. Ambuja said its production increased to 1.67 mt in July this year from 1.41 mt in the corresponding period last year.
The cumulative dispatches for Ambuja Cement, during the January-July period, stood at 12.73 mt compared to 12.38 mt in the same period last year, while its production increased to 12.46 mt over 12.25 mt in January-July period of the last year, including clinkers.Infrastructure major Jaiprakash Associates cement division Jaypee Cements recorded 18 percent sales growth at 1.45 mt against 1.22 mt in the same month last year, while the
cumulative April-July sales stood at 5.63 mt, which is 10 percent higher than 5.12 mt in the year-ago period. PTI
