New Delhi: The Central government gave about 10-month extension to Air India chief Rohit Nandan, second time since his appointment to the post.
Nandan, a 1982 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the cash-strapped air carrier for three years in August 2011.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of Nandan as CMD, Air India till August 21, 2015 or till the appointment of a regular incumbent, whichever is earlier, said an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The Government had on August 11 approved three-month extension to Nandan with the direction that the process of selection of a new CMD may be completed in the meantime.
However, the Government could not complete the process of appointment of the new CMD following which today's order was issued.
The tenure of Ramesh Abhishek, Chairman of Forward Markets Commission, has also been extended for a period of three months beyond October 8, another DoPT order said.
Abhishek is a 1982 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre.
The ACC has also extended tenure of Ashok Kumar Gupta, Additional Secretary in Department of Defence Production for a period of six months beyond October 15. Gupta is a 1981 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.
