Sony launches Xperia ZL2 in Japan

New Delhi: Sony has launched its Sony Xperia ZL2 smartphone in Japan, listing it on its site. Sony is a bit coy about the price and availability of the smartphone, but it is quick to point out its highlights which it shares with the Xperia Z2.The phone comes with a 5" 1080p display complete with the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and X-Reality engine.The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage and has a microSD card slot with support of up to 128GB additional storage. The ZL2 runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Sony's Xperia UI on top.The Xperia ZL2 is larger than its predecessor. It measures 137 x 72 x 10.8mm (compared to 131.6 x 69.3 x 9.8 mm of the Xperia ZL). The smartphone is also 16 g heavier at 167 g.The Xperia ZL2's rear camera boasts of a f2/2 20.7-megapixel CMOS 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor with Bionz image processing technology that is capable of recording 4K (3840x2160 pixels) resolution videos alongside what reads to be 3.1 million pixel front-facing camera.The device is backed by a 3000mAh battery that the company claims to deliver up to 1340 minutes of continuous talk time and a charging time of about 150 minutes. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth v4.0. Information on GPS, NFC, FM radio with RDS and IR are not mentioned.The smartphone, like previous Xperia models, is waterproof (IPX5/IPX8) and dust-proof (IP5X), and is available in three colour variants - Blue, White and Blue.Earlier, the company revealed its Xperia Z2 smartphone in India at Rs. 49,990. It will be bundled along with the Sony SmartBand fitness tracker band initially, for free.The company has announced that the Xperia Z2, successor to the Xperia Z1 will be available in India starting May 12.
