How to choose the right smartphone

New Delhi: The smartphones universe is growing magnificently – at a rate much faster than you can imagine. They have become ubiquitous as evident from the fact that worldwide smartphone shipments overtook feature phones in

Battery life

Faster processors, clearer displays, high-end cameras, and improvement in other quarters literally take the juice out of batteries everyday. This makes battery life an almost equally important factor for every smartphone user. A good smartphone is considered to be one that can last through the day with a single charge. Battery life should be atleast 1750 mAh to support the usage of different applications on your smartphone.

Most phones pack in Lithium-ion battery, or Li-ion. Phone batteries have a limited number of charge and discharge cycles, usually falling between 300 and 500. Beyond this, batteries gradually diminish below 50 percent of its original capacity. Battery life and charge cycles vary by the operating system, phone settings, network type (WiFi, CDMA/GSM, 2G/3G), and programs used.

A typical smartphone features around five hours talk time on 3G (2-3 times more on 2G) and 150 hours standby time. But this reduces significantly when you play media and games or surf the web. Do remember that if you are a heavy phone user who makes a lot of calls and sends emails constantly, then you might want to keep a spare battery on hand.
