New Delhi: The rumour mills are churning out the specs of the highly awaited gadget in 2014, the Samsung Galaxy S5. Reports suggest that the S5 may have a Quad HD screen as well as fingerprint and eye scanners.

A QHD screen has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, which is the same resolution as a 27-inch iMac. Earlier this year, LG unveiled its ultra-thin QHD display panel, while Chinese manufacturer Vivo launched the world's first smartphone with this technology in October. It is also likely that the South Korean handset maker will keep the size of the smartphone under the 5.5-inch mark.

A detailed analysis by PatentBolt reveals how an upcoming Samsung smartphone could use a retina scanner, much in the same way as current iris scanners work now.

Beyond the stunning new display and a possible integrated eye scanner, the S5 is also expected to feature a new 64-bit eight-core Exynos processor or a quad-core Snapdragon processor depending on the device model, a 16-megapixel camera with new technology that improves low-light photo quality, 3GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Rumors also suggest that the company may launch its 2014 flagship phne in multiple versions. Samsung is also rumoured to be working on a main version of the S5 with a plastic housing as well as a premium version of the Android phon.

Smartphone companies are rather predictable, generally launching products on a yearly timescale. Keeping this in view, it is likely that the S5 will be launched in the first quarter of the calendar year in 2014.
