New Delhi: With its metal design and futuristic features, the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone has got pretty much everything that could well make it the best loved Android smartphone of 2014. The Galaxy S5 takes the DNA of its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, and makes improvements in most areas. With a fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor, smarter camera, super download speeds and a new IP67 water and dustproof build, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of what you think a smartphone can do. Combined with the Gear 2 or Gear Fit, the SGS5 is a complete life tracker and complete life managment device. Here's Samsung Galaxy S5 in images: The S5 has a plastic build and offers a texture of little dimples on the back to give it a bit of extra grip. Samsung calls it "modern and refreshing", and it comes in four shades – blue, gold, white and black.The S5 has a similar shape and weight as of the S4, but the latest version is just a little thicker at 8.1mm thick. It is a bit longer too, which is likely down to all the extra tech Samsung has crammed in. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is certified to the IP67 standard, meaning it can be submerged in water and is completely dust-proof.A standout hardware addition on the Galaxy S5 is the hard sensor. The heart rate sensor lives next to the LED flash, in the little group of odd-looking techy bits and bobs below the camera. It allows you to monitor your heart rate when you place a finger on the back of the phone.Another interesting feature of the S5 is a fingerprint sensor. It's in a similar position to the iPhone 5S's Touch ID sensor, but the tech it uses is a little different. While in iPhone 5S you place you finger on it, the Galaxy S5's button sensor needs a swipe. The S5 also comes with a few extra hardware features including an IR blaster, which will let you replace your home entertainment remote controls using the phone. You 'teach' the phone the commands from your various remotes, one by one. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1 inch 1080 x 1920 Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch. As with just about every OLED-type screen, contrast and black level are excellent. Samsung also claims it has significantly improved the screen's colour gamut, which should result in a further lessening of the over-saturation commonly associated with OLED screens.The Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor (2 GB RAM). The processor includes an Adreno 330 GPU for high-quality photography and image post-processing as well as integrated 4G LTE Advanced connectivity that allows for download speeds of up to 150Mbps. The phone can run smoothly anything you throw at it. The phone comes with Android 4.4 KitKat and a new version of Samsung's TouchWiz interface.You also get a choice between 16GB and 32GB of expandable storage (you can add up to 64GB extra via microSD), and there's a microUSB 3.0 port for quick transfer speeds.Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO functionality, ANT+, Bluetooth 4.0, USB3.0, NFC, and Infrared remote functionality.The S5 plus a feature called Download Booster which uses the power of Wi-Fi with either 3G or 4G download speeds to give even better opportunities to get your massive files on the go.The SGS5 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with HDR (for video as well), and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera can record UHD video @30 fps along with HDR and video stabilization functionality.As usual with a Samsung phone, the Galaxy S5 is loaded with a few extra apps too. These include S Health 3.0 and Knox (a security suite). The S5 has a 2,800mAh battery, up from 2,600mAh in the Galaxy S4.
