New Delhi: Nokia has announced a partnership with Airtel under which the company will offer Airtel users free 500MB 3G data per month for 3 months if they buy the Nokia X smartphone. Customers who are in non-3G circles can enjoy the same benefit on 2G data as well.

Post the exhaustion of 500 MB of data, users will be charged 3 paise per 10KB and 10 paise per 10 KB in 2G circles.

The offer would be available only on the first SIM inserted in a new Nokia X device by existing or new Airtel customers. The offer is valid on new devices bought until June 30, 2014.

"India is witnessing a tremendous growth in smartphone adoption. This offer will enable customers to make the most of their new Nokia X device," Bharti Airtel CEO (Data and Devices) Kartik Sheth said.

Last month, Nokia had launched its phone 'X' in India for Rs. 8,599, which is aimed at protecting its turf in the fiercely competitive Indian smartphone market.

The Nokia X is a low-end device that comes with a four-inch screen with an IPS display, a three-megapixel rear camera, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It is powered by a 1 Ghz dual-core processor, along with 512MB of RAM. It offers 4GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 32GB in capacity through a microSD card.

Nokia uses a “forked” version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean using Nokia/Microsoft's own custom interface and suite of applications. This results in a homescreen and app drawer navigation mimicking Windows Phone with a vertical scrolling tile interface and a right-to-left swipe to bring up a list of apps. The device comes integrated with Nokia and Microsoft services like Outlook, Skype, HERE maps, Nokia Music and so forth.

The company had earlier said it will bring the other two devices -- X+ and XL -- in the Indian market by May. Nokia X+ will be priced at euro 99 (about Rs. 8,400), Nokia XL at euro 109 (about Rs. 9,200) and Nokia X at euro 89 (about Rs. 7,500).
