New Delhi: There is a general perception among smartphone buyers that bigger smartphones are good for video viewing and that the devices, can do much more things than their smaller counterparts. And the data proves it.

Long-term analyst in the field of smart technologies Bob O'Donnell, prior of IDC and now of his own TECHnalysis Research, has come out and said that phablets will outsell small tablets globally in the coming year.

Homegrown handset maker Micromax is betting big on large screen phablets.

People understand that the bigger screens that come with the tablets and bigger smartphones are better for video and that the devices, overall, can do all the jobs that users run on their smartphones and tablets. Not surprisingly then that the demand for phablets, with screens between 5.6 and seven inches, is growing and is being preferred over tablets.
Betting big on the phablet category, homegrown handset maker Micromax has come out with a dual-SIM phablet, dubbed Canvas XL, which features a 6-inch display that possesses a resolution of 960×540 pixel.

The device is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. The handset runs Google's Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and comes pre-installed with some Micromax-specific applications.

The phablet seems to be Micromax's answer to upcoming Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and HP Slate 6 VoiceTab devices.

The Canvas XL A119 sports a 8 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera. It offers 4GB of internal memory, which is further expandable up to 32GB through the usage of microSD memory card.  Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and GPS.

The device gets its juice from a 2,450 mAh battery, which the company claims can deliver 9.5 hours of talktime.

Overall, it seems to be a pretty decent phablet looking at the processing speed, operating system, camera facility along with a powerful battery. But it remains to be seen how this phablet fares in the market already flooded with so many options.
