New Delhi: Google has bought a three-year-old startup that had two Indians — Vish Ramarao and Naveen Jamal — as co-founders and offices in Bangalore and California. The startup, Impermium, also had a third co-founder Mark Risher.
The startup is a security firm that builds products for websites that deals with cyber security.
While Ramarao and Risher are based in California, Jamal takes care of the company's needs from Bangalore. All three had previously worked together in Yahoo and came out of it in 2010 to found Impermium.
Impermium's website now has just a note from Risher, who was the CEO, with the headline 'Impermium is joining Google'. “When we founded Impermium three years ago, our mission was to help rid the web of spam, fraud, and abuse. As sites gain in popularity, criminals and miscreants are never far behind, and Impermium has worked hard to defend some of the largest and fastest-growing sites,” he said.
“By joining Google, our team will merge with some of the best abuse fighters in the world. With our combined talents we'll be able to further our mission and help make the Internet a safer place. We're excited about the possibilities.”
However, the terms of the deal has not disclosed by Goggle and Impermium.
Impermium had earlier received $9 million in funding from a host of venture firms including Accel Partners, AOL Ventures, Charles River Ventures and Highland Capital Partners. The company says it has 300,000 clients, including CNN, Tumblr, Pinterest, ESPN, Typepad and Washington Post.
