New Delhi: A team of doctors under the supervision of Orthopedic surgeon Selene G. Parekh used Google Glass, the tech giant's wearable computer, to perform a successful foot and ankle surgery in Jaipur. The surgery was broadcast live on Google via internet.
The surgery team was headed by Dr Ashish Sharma who said Google Glass has turned useful in allowing the doctor to look at an X-Ray or MRI without taking the eye off from the patient. He further said the device even lets doctor to connect with a patient's family or friends during a procedure.
The operating team believes such wearable technology is bound to revolutionise surgery and would teach procedures to aspiring surgeons without being part of operation team. Moreover, with the whole operation being aired live on Internet, other doctors sitting across the globe, can also give their input during the live surgery. The team of doctors believe it would be extremely beneficial in rural areas.
Earlier, A Chennai-based doctor performed a surgery wearing the Google glass as he live streamed an upper gastro-intestinal laparoscopy procedure on a 45-year-old man to medical students seated two blocks away.
