New Delhi: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has reportedly fined Google for its non-compliance in a two-year-old anti-trust probe that focused on the search giant's online search practices.

The competition watchdog imposed a fine of $166,000 upon Google's failure to comply with the directions given by the Director General (DG) seeking information and documents.

According to Tech Crunch, Google has been facing the anti-trust heat in India since 2012, based on complaints from the advocacy group, CUTS International and a local matrimony website.

The case surrounds the search giant's questionable online search algorithm and whether Google has abused its dominant position in the business of Internet search and advertising.

Meanwhile, a Google India spokesperson said that the company was disappointed with the development, adding that the company would continue to cooperate fully with the CCI's extensive and ongoing investigation.
