Mumbai: With e-commerce sites going extra mile to tap into to the ever-growing online market in the country, an online portal has come up with a unique idea to woo altogether different set of customers.
Bookmybai.com--an online maid service is offering maids for house cleaning, cooking, babysitting and elderly help.
The service enables users to pick and choose a maid depending on their expectations as well as the religious, linguistic and places of birth of the maids.
With Diwali on its way, the website suggests husbands to ‘gift' their wives a maid instead of diamonds.
So far so good, selling the services of a person is fine but presenting him/her as a commodity is bound to spark controversy– a strategy lately used by publicity hungry start ups to grab more and more eyeballs.
The ad has generated huge curiosity among social media users for obvious reasons with many taking to Twitter to share jokes and comments; while others reproached the website for sexism.
The campaign was extremely light hearted and we don't mean to stereotype or discriminate women,” said Anupam Sinhal, co founder of bookmybai, adding that “We would never dream of doing that since women are the reason we exist. Ninety nine per cent of domestic helps are women. It completely depends on the mindset of the person reading the advertisement.”
