Q: If I may ask you, what makes you feel a ‘proud Indian'?
Bibek Debroy: I feel a proud Indian when I particularly see the younger generation; they have a lot of confidence, a lot of drive.
In my generation, we often tended to be very defensive about India. The young generation, I find, is very proud of being Indian and it is fundamentally that which makes me proud and feel confident about the future.
I can pin it down and say a little bit that I would be proud the day I see people are not trying to immigrate to United States.

Bibek Debroy: What I found in my life, most of the time when you find disappointment, that is actually triggered by something that is extremely temporary. That disappointment passes and once a door closes, you will find, some other door opens.
Every job that I wanted in my life, I never got. And every job I got, I never wanted. That's why I say life is completely unpredictable.
The best advice that I can give to anyone is – please don't try to plan your life. You life has been planned for you. It's a matter of destiny that you have little control over, so, just go along with it. The thing is not to think about the destination but to think about how you can handle yourself.
