Further strengthening its Pulsar brand, Bajaj Auto today launched the next in its sports series with the Pulsar adventure sports bikes (Rs 91,550 for the AS200 trim and Rs 79,000 for the AS150 edition, ex-showroom Delhi introductory prices).
The new Pulsar range, aimed at young riders for long-distance weekend getaway runs, are equipped with a muscular fairing and extended visor. One of the main attractive features of both the bikes are projector headlamps, which is claimed to be a segment-first.
While the Pulsar AS200 is powered by a 199.5cc triple spark, 4-valve, liquid-cooled DTSi engine, the AS150 runs on a 149.5cc twin spark, 4-valve, air-cooled DTSi engine.
Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto and Eric Vas, president (Motorcycles Business), said with these two bikes Bajaj wants to strengthen of its sports bike flagship product platform which was introduced in 2001. For the past 3-5 years, Bajaj had been focusing on growing niche products like the KTM brand.
Rajiv Bajaj said the Pulsar 220 will continue as the leader segment. He said the company has always been a market leader in terms of product initiatives and has continuously expanded the Pulsar range to cater to various consumer preferences in the sports segment.
"The Adventure Sports Series will further expand and grow this segment by offering a product which matches up to the new age consumer's lifestyle and riding requirements," Vas said.
Bajaj first brought the Pulsar to the Indian market in 2001.
At the moment the Pulsar range sells around 60,000 units every month in the domestic sports motorcycle market with a leadership market share of 43 per cent, making it India's top sports bike for 14 years in a row.
The Pune-based company's Pulsar range comprises Pulsar 220, Pulsar NS 200, Pulsar RS 200, Pulsar 180, 150 and 135.
