New Delhi: Apple has managed to clock 9 million unit sales of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C models in their first three days on the market, making it the most successful iPhone launch ever.
Although, there were no words on how many iPhone 5s and 5c smartphones it sold, the company only said the sales of the gadgets has broke previous records. It said the demand has "exceeded that initial supply" with online orders expected to ship in the coming weeks.
"This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold, a new record for first weekend sales," Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said in a statement. "The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."
At the same time Apple also announced that nearly 200 million iOS devices have upgraded to iOS 7, making it the "fastest software upgrade in history."
Last year, Apple sold 5 million iPhone 5 smartphones in its first three days on the market, which topped the 4 million 4S smartphones it sold the year before.
Apple on September 20 released the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C which drew lots of customer attention and lines across the world.
The newly launched iPhone 5S comes with a Apple-designed A7 64-bit chip, all-new 8MP camera and Touch ID, an innovative way to simply and securely unlock your phone with just the touch of a finger. On the other hand, the iPhone 5C features a 4-inch Retina display, A6 chip, and 8MP camera. Both iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C offer more LTE bands than any other smartphone in the world and include FaceTime HD cameras.
Brian White, an analyst with Cantor Fitzgerald, conducted a survey of Apple Stores across the country to find out which model is in demand and which is not. The survey revealed that gold sold out first, followed by space gray.
The iPhone 5S, available in gold, silver or space gray, is available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model. While iPhone 5C comes in blue, green, pink, yellow and white and is available in the US for a suggested retail price of $99 (US) for the 16GB model and $199 (US) for the 32GB model.
