Bengaluru: Abid Ali Neemuchwala, former Chief Executive Officer of TCS BPO has been appointed as the group president and chief operating officer (COO) of Indian IT giant Wipro. He will be taking charge of the company on April 1.
An IIT Bombay alumnus Neemuchwala will head the company's service lines of global infrastructure services, business application services, business process services, and advanced technology solutions. In his role of the COO, he will also look after the business operations, strategic engagements of the regions comprising Continental Europe, Africa and Latin America. His role will also include as the chief of advisor, relationships and the marketing function of the company.
Wipro CEO TK Kurien said in a statement, “Abid brings invaluable experience with his track record of building and scaling businesses. I am confident his deep understanding of technology and expertise in all facets of IT & BPS businesses will help power our businesses to greater heights.”
A 23-year-old veteran at TCS, Neemuchwala, who resigned from the company last month said, "I am honoured to join Wipro, a company with a rich heritage of technology innovation and unflinching commitment to values. I look forward to contributing towards the company's next phase of growth."
Kurien will now be free from the day to day operations of the company and will be able to focus on new business and larger strategy issues of the organisation.
Wipro, India's third-largest software exporter, did not have a COO for six year when Lakshman Rao retired in 2009.
