To stay in the competition, most of the two wheeler manufacturers have started offering advanced features to attract a large number of buyers.
We, as a user always come across to the campaigns stating the new and advanced features, but the question is do these features really worth to have in scooters or it's just their marketing strategy to increase their market share?
Here we have listed some of the useful features that every scooter should offer in India.
1. Mobile Charger:
Mobile has become a hack of a need of every individual living in society. Having a mobile charger in a scooter can be helpful when you are up for a long ride and also when you forgot to charge your cell phone at home or may be in a quite hurry to reach some destination and could not have much time to put your mobile on charge.
The mobile charging socket comes under the seat storage and can be used while the ignition is on. Presently, the feature is available in few scooters only, which includes newly launched Hero Duet and Maestro Edge, Hero Pleasure, TVS Wego and Jupiter and the Suzuki's 110cc scooter Let's.
2. Height Adjustable Seat:
This is truly a big help for the short people, who faces troubles while riding a vehicle. With this, people can easily adjust the height (increase or decrease) accordingly and can enjoy the complete comfort of the ride.
However, most the scooters do not offer this option and Mahindra Gusto is the only scooter that comes equipped with the feature of height adjustment.
3. Telescopic Front Suspension System:
Most of the scooter makers have understood the value of having telescopic suspension up front while there are few who still do not pay heed to this aspect.
Having a telescopic suspension at the front wheel can help increase the stability as compared to the traditional bottom-link type suspension system. Telescopic suspension further helps to reduce the effect of shocks and the level of vibrations and brings more comfortable riders.
Currently, except Honda's 110cc and Vespa scooters, all the other manufacturers offers telescopic suspension set up at front.
4. External Fuel Filling:
Though, it seems a basic feature, but actually help you in saving your time and effort of opening the seat. There are times, when we are quite in a hurry and needs to get the scooter tank refueled, this can actually work as a time saver as you don't need to put the scooter on a stand and open the seat.
The feature has become quite common and scooters such as Hero Maestro Edge, Hero Duet, TVS Scooty Zest, TVS Streak, TVS Wego and Mahindra Gusto offers external fuel filling.
5. Large Wheels with Tubeless tyres:
Some of the scooter makers have started giving their vehicles a large wheelbase along with Tubeless tyres. Now, the companies offer 12-inch wheels instead of 10-inch, which has helped them to enhance the maneuverability of the scooter.
Scooters such as TVS Wego, TVS Jupiter and Mahindra Gusto offers 12-inch wheels at both front and rear whereas the Hero Maestro Edge and Honda Activa 125 offers the same only at the front wheel.
6. Combined or Integrated Braking System:
Scooters need to have balanced braking efforts on both front and rear wheels to avoid skidding. Therefore, urgent braking becomes difficult for a new rider.
Hence, the companies have started giving their scooters, an Integrated or Combined Braking System that brings an adequate balance of both front and rear brakes with a single lever.
Hero MotoCorp and Honda are the only two manufacturers in India that offers Integrated Braking System and Combined Braking system respectively with their scooters.
