Xiaomi Mi Max: Here’s everything you need to know

New Delhi/Beijing: Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi launched Mi Max phablet, and MIUI 8, the next generation of its Android-based operating system (OS) at an event in Beijing, China.

The phablet comes with a metal unibody design and features a fingerprint scanner. It will be available in silver, gold and dark grey colour variants.

Xiaomi Mi Max price: The Mi Max will be offered in three storage variants. The Snapdragon 650 powered 32GB storage and 3GB of RAM will be priced at CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs 15,350). The Snapdragon 652 will be powered 64GB storage and 3GB of RAM will be available aat CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs 17,500), and the third variant is Snapdragon 652 SoC, 128GB storage and 4GB of RAM costs CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs 20,500). There no word on its availability outside China.

Xiaomi Mi Max specification: The phablet will come with a 6.44-inch full HD (1080p) display. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor which includes two Cortex-A72 cores and four A53 cores paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. There is also other variant powered by Snapdragon 652 SoC which is paired with 3GB of RAM and 64GB storage, and a slightly higher variant with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage.

The Mi Max is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera along with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. The front camera will come with a 5-megpaixel 85-degrees wide-angle selfie camera for photos and video calling. The phablet is powered by a 4,850mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the Mi Max has 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and Bluetooth.

MIUI 8: Xiaomi also unveiled MIUI 8 with new redesign and several features. It has bold colours and Xiaomi's Mi Lanting font. With MIUI 8, users can protect two accounts with different password or fingerprint. MIUI 8 also introduces the ability to take long screenshots beyond what can be seen on the screen. The calculator app has also been improved and photo gallery has been given several optimisations.
