New Delhi: Facebook has brought the new group calling feature to its Messenger app. This free calling feature is available for Messenger on Android and iOS.
Messenger users will be able to make calls by just tapping on the phone icon to initiate a group call. A phone icon will appear in the top right corner of group conversations once the feature is live on the device. The feature is currently limited to just 50 people and the social media giant is likely to increase the limit in future.
A post by David Marcus, Messenger Chief, Facebook, confirmed the roll out. "If you have the latest version of Messenger, you should see the phone icon appear in group conversations within the next 24 hours. Give it a try and as always, let us know how we can make it even better for you," said Marcus in his post.

When a user receives a group call, the screen will show the group name with list of its members. To be added in the conversation they need to accept the incoming group call. Users can also ignore or decline it. Members of group can join the call by opening conversation and tapping on the audio call button. Users can see whether members are there in the call or not and also can call anyone who is not there yet.
In order to leave group call, user will have to tap the red ‘end call’ button on screen and other participants will hear an exit tone.
Facebook Messenger has over 900 monthly active users and the chat option has been adding regular updates.
The free group calling is already present in Google Hangouts and Slack. Group video calling is still not available in messenger, though most rivals offer the feature, from Skype to Viber and WeChat.
