New Delhi: In an initiative aimed at ensuring that customers do not fall into the trap of false claims made by internet service providers in terms of internet speed, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is all set to launch a mobile app that will provide you an accurate measure of the speed of internet offered by telcos on your mobile phones. This app, offered both on Android and iOS, will facilitate customers with the correct data on how operators are performing in terms of internet speed. The app is rumoured to be launched next month for the customers.
According to TRAI, customers should know about the experience of different networks beforehand in order to make the correct choice of operator.
TRAI in a statement has said that the app is a kind of crowd sourcing initiative to check network performance of all mobile operators.

A meeting was conducted by the TRAI Secretary Sudhir Gupta last week with representatives of mobile operators to give a demonstration of the app. The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held between TRAI Chairman R S Sharma and chief executives of telecom firms.
The new app is another step by the telecom regulator aimed at consumers. Earlier this month, TRAI had launched another mobile app for telecom subscribers to register complaints against pesky calls and SMSes.
Bharti Airtel has also launched an initiative called open network, where customers can see various parameters of the network.
