New Delhi: Amazon has announced a new entry-level Kindle reader, which is lighter in the hand and also on your wallet. The new Kindle is priced at Rs 5,999 and is up for pre-orders from the Amazon India website and will start shipping from July 7.
The ebook reader will come in black and white colour variants, and has a more rounded design, which will be easier to hold.
This new Kindle does not come with a built-in reading light, unlike Oasis or Kindle portfolio. But this is the first Kindle with built-in Bluetooth audio support, which will let visually impaired users use a VoiceView screen reader to have books or other content on the screen read aloud. Users can also pair the Kindle with a Bluetooth headphone or speaker.
A new feature is also added that will let export notes and highlights from a book, as a PDF or spreadsheet file, and print them out. The latest Kindle has Wi-Fi connectivity with no cellular option.
The technical specification features a 6-inch display with E-Ink Pearl technology (paper-like display technology, characterized by high brightness and contrast) and has pixel density of 167 ppi. It has a storage capacity of 4 GB. The company claims that the battery can be fully charged in approximately 4 hours from a computer via USB cable and a single charge lasts up to four weeks. The new Kindle measures 160 mm x 115 mm x 9.1 mm and weighs around 161 grams.
