Tata Sons today sent a legal notice to its former chairman Cyrus Mistry asking him to return all confidential documents in his possession.

According to reports, the salt-to-software conglomerate has even asked Mistry to give a written confirmation saying ‘none of it was shared with his Shapoorji Pallonji Group companies, family members and other affiliates’.

The company has alleged that Mistry has wrongfully and dishonestly taken confidential information from the premises of the company without taking appropriate consent.

"Our client has a strong reason to believe that you are in possession of highly valuable information and documents pertaining to our client and Tata Group companies, and have disclosed such information without prior authorisation and direction from the board of the directors of the company," the legal notice sent through law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas said.

The company has given a two-day ultimatum to Mistry to give in writing that he has returned all the confidential information and will not disclose any of it further to his affiliates, relatives and family members.

Earlier this week, Tata Sons had accused Mistry for violating the law by passing on confidential corporate information that was made public with a view to damaging the company.

Tata Sons is currently locked in a bitter corporate-cum-legal battle with Mistry, who was sacked from the post two months ago. Mistry, who succeeded Tata, was removed even before he could settle his foot in the company affairs properly.
