New Delhi: Instagram broke into a panic as users thought that the photo-sharing platform will change how images are displayed on its feed.  Earlier this month, Instagram had announced its plans that it would switch from a chronological order of photos to an algorithm-based approach similar to what Facebook and Twitter do with the News Feed and Timelines.

Most of the Instagram power users and brands have put up photos with the words ‘turn on notifications’ and an arrow pointing towards the ‘Follow’ button on the top-right corner. Due to the misunderstanding about posts being seen only if the notifications were turned on, Instagram took to Twitter and assured that nothing is changing yet.

An Instagram spokesperson told The Fader that nothing is changing, and there’s still testing going on. “This is not being implemented tomorrow—we still have weeks, or even months, of testing to go. Currently the test groups are very small. When we roll it out broadly, we will definitely let the community know.”

We're listening and we assure you nothing is changing with your feed right now. We promise to let you know when changes roll out broadly.

Instagram’s chronological feed means that people who are following many users and brands tend to miss out on some posts, and this order will help them to keep themselves updated.

“To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most. The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order,” Instagram said in a post.
