Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani today launched the much-awaited 4G VoLTE feature phone which will be “effectively” free-of-cost. Mukesh Ambani made the announcement today at the 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai. The phone will be “effectively” free although the consumer will have to deposit Rs 1500 which will be refundable after three years. The JioPhone will be available for user testing in beta from August 15 with pre-orders starting from August 24. Mukesh Ambani further said that all JioPhone units will be made in India from the last quarter of this year.
"The phone will be available from August 15, 2017….We are targeting to have 5 million Jio Phone units every week," Mukesh Ambani said.
The Reliance Industries Chairman also said that the company wants to make the 2G feature phone obsolete.
Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone comes preloaded with all Jio applications like Jio Cinema, Jio Music etc.
Reliance Jio has termed the 4G VoLTE feature phone as "India ka smartphone".

The JioPhone will also have features like 2.4 inch QVGA display, FM radio, Alpha numeric keypad, Torch light, Headphone jack, SD card slot, Four way navigation system, Jio Cinema, Jio Music, etc.
