Amravati: Textile giant Raymond has announced its expansion of cotton manufacturing footprint at Textile Park, Additional Industrial Area, Nandgaon Peth in Amravati. The Bhoomi Pujan was performed by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Chairman & Managing Director, Raymond Ltd, Gautam Hari Singhania yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Fadnavis said that his government is planning to develop Amravati, infamous for farmer suicides, as a textiles city to promote this industry in cotton-growing areas of the Vidarbha region, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
"The state government is promoting textile industries in suicide-prone region of Vidarbha to give a value addition and alternate market linkage to the cotton growers of the region, on the lines of sugarcane belt of Western Maharashtra, to prevent farmers' suicide in the cotton-growing region of western part of Vidarbha," he said.
Singhania said that the plant is a part of PM Narendra Modi’s ambitious Make in India campaign and this will help in generating multiple employments in the region.
“Partnering with the government in its Make in India initiative and Maharashtra’s endeavor to develop backward regions like Vidarbha, Raymond signed a MoU in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February. Along with generation of multiple employment opportunities it will contribute substantially to the overall development of the region,” he said.
