A large part of population across the nation has favoured the government’s demonetisation policy to fight black money, according to a latest survey.
The survey, conducted by C-Voter, suggested that a whopping 80-86 per cent of the surveyors said that the inconvenience caused by the demonetisation is worth the effort of fighting the menace of black money and corruption.
C-Voter, an international poling agency headquartered in India, conducted its survey in close to half the total parliamentary constituencies on Monday.
The numbers remained consistently high even when the surveyors were divided on the basis of area of area of residence, income levels and age groups.
According to the survey, a massive 86 per cent of the respondents living in urban and rural areas said that the inconvenience following the move was worth it, whereas 80.6 per cent living in semi-urban areas favoured it.
However, the highest level of support (90.6 per cent) seems to come from those from the higher income group. Also, the lowest level of support in the ‘below 25’, 25-45, 45-5-60 and 60+ was 83.3 per cent.
Moreover, those with the thought that the demonetisation was a ‘good move and equally well implemented’ were – 71 per cent in urban areas, 65.1 per cent in semi-rural areas and 59.4 per cent in rural areas.
On the contrary, 23.8 per cent of urban, 24.3 per cent of semi-urban and 36 per cent of rural respondents agreed with the charge of some opposition parties that the move was a ‘good step but poorly implemented’.
Surprisingly, over 55 per cent respondents supported the thought that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would take a beating if he succumbs to political pressure and rolls back the ‘demonetisation’ move. This view was held by 62.6 percent in urban, 67.3 percent in semi-urban and 54.8 percent in rural pockets.
