Pakistan has claimed that it does not need support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) anymore and will stop looking to it for assistance.
“Pakistan will soon stop looking towards IMF for assistance. The last session with IMF is underway right now,” Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said in an interview to DawnNews on Monday.
We will not go to IMF for assistance, he added.
The Finance Minister said that by 2050, Pakistan will become the 18th biggest economic nation across the world.
Earlier, a senior IMF official said that Pakistan's economy was gradually gaining strength and its short-term vulnerabilities were also receding.
Pakistan will be ready to go it alone when its $6.7 billion (Rs 44700 crore) three-year IMF programme ends in September, a senior fund official had said in April.
Substantial progress had been made in repairing the economy and that the government was right in saying it does not need another package, Masood Ahmed, director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia department said, according to areport by Reuters.
Pakistan’s growth is expected to be 4.5 per cent this year.
