New Delhi: Agri-food major India will co-sponsor M S Dhoni-led IPL cricket team Rising Pune Supergiants for promotion of its sunflower oil brand Gemini.
Cargill India, part of US-based agri-food giant Cargill, also announced the launch of new packs of Nature Fresh Actilite low-fat cooking sunflower oil and Sweekar sunflower oil, which will be available in the markets from this month.
“... brand initiatives across the sunflower oil portfolio will help us strengthen our presence in the category. We intend to be the no. 1 player in the sunflower oil category,” Cargill Foods India Deoki Muchhal said in a statement.
The company’s CMO Neelima Burra said: “IPL is the biggest cricketing event in the country and we are pleased to associate with Rising Pune Supergiants as its official healthy cooking oil partner.”
IPL offers “a huge platform” for engaging with consumers as well as with the trade community, Burra added.
Echoing Burra’s point, Rising Pune Supergiants CEO Raghu Iyer said, “Gemini, the top edible oil brand in Pune, and Rising Pune Supergiants share common values of leadership and are both favourites of the people of Pune.”
Rising Pune Supergiants is one of the eight cricket franchises of the Indian Premier League. The franchise owned by the RP-Sanjiv Geonka Group was founded in 2015.
The team is currently captained by M S Dhoni and coached by former New Zealand cricketer Stephen Fleming.
In India, Cargill’s operations started in 1987, which has businesses in refined oils, food ingredients, grain and oilseeds, sugar, cotton, animal feed and trade structured finance.
Cargill markets various consumer brands of edible oils such as Nature Fresh, Gemini, Sweekar, Leonardo Olive Oil and Rath. It also markets Nature Fresh brand of packaged wheat flour.
