New Delhi: Apple’s WWDC 2016 keynote had several major software announcements, encompassing updates for practically all the operating systems which include iOS, Mac, Watch and Tv. Apple also introduced new methods which would make it simpler to use Apple devices and more.
Here are the 10 big announcements made this year:
- Apple announced the iOS 10, termed as the ‘biggest release yet’. The new version of the OS had a refreshed look with a swing of new features. iOS 10 has brought updates to Messages, Home app, Photos, Music and News and opens Siri, Maps, Phone and Messages to developers.
- Next big thing is that the OS X has now been renamed as macOS, and will be called as Sierra. The main thing to be noted here is that Sierra will bring Siri to the desktop. So, from now on users will be able to give voice commands to find any data on the desktop such as files, messages and more.
- WatchOS 3 has been introduced in the WWDC 2016, which brings several new abilities and is said to be seven times faster than the previous OS. Apple has also come up with a new feature called scribble that will allow users to write words on the display and Apple Watch will convert the handwriting to text.
- Apple Music has been updated and will come with an all-new design. The Cupertino giant has redesigned the browser and Radio tabs, and a Search tab has been added to make finding music a bit easier.
- Apple Maps in the new iOS 10 has been redesigned and will now be open to developers with new extensions. OpenTable has been integrated to make Uber bookings easier. Maps will now be able to search along the route for gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops and more.
- Apple in the new OS iOS 10 has introduced SiriKit that will help developers design their apps to work with Siri. So now the developers can play with Siri that will help in messaging, phone calls, photo search, ride booking, personal payments and workouts. Siri can also be used to control CarPlay apps, access climate controls and more.
- Apple’s tvOS has got a new update that will bring about a new Sign-In mode helping users to log onto all their network apps all at once. The Apple TV OS boasts over 1,300 video channels and over 6,000 apps at present.
- Apple Pay has also been updated and now it will be able to make secure and private purchases on websites using Safari, in addition to paying in-store and within apps. Users can authenticate a purchase through Touch ID that is similar to the Apple Watch.
- Apple News app has been updated too. A new designed interface has been created that can also add the ability to subscribe to certain channels and offer lock screen notifications. Apple News app has 2,000 publications and over 60 million monthly readers.
- A new Home app from Apple has been introduced that will help users to organise and get connected to home setup, and offer support for new categories of gadgets, which includes thermostats, security cameras, smoke detectors and more.
